Charleston, W.V. - West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has just over 500 America’s 250th anniversary license plates remaining.
“This license plate is not only a testament to our country, but a memorial to the men and women who have served and sacrificed so that America remains free,” said Everett Frazier, Commissioner of DMV. “This is not just a license plate. This is an opportunity to be inspired by their lives, to remember them, and to have pride in their contributions to keeping us free.”
The limited-edition America’s 250th license plate is currently available at the following DMV Regional Offices, with 20 or more plates remaining at Beckley, Elkins, Franklin, Huntington, Moorefield, Parkersburg, Point Pleasant, Princeton, Summersville, Weirton, Welch and Williamson. Fewer than 20 plates remain at Regional Offices in Berkeley Springs, Charles Town, Clarksburg, Fairmont, Flatwoods, Kanawha City, Keyser, Lewisburg, Morgantown, Moundsville and Winfield. The special license plate is out of stock at the remaining offices.
Guests with questions about the America’s 250th plate, or those who cannot travel to a DMV office in person, should use the DMV’s toll free number available to in-state residents, (800) 642-9066.
To get the plate, there is a $10 scenic plate fee, in addition to your regular annual renewal fee of $51.50. If you are turning in another plate with time still available on your registration, this cost will be prorated. Each of the 5,000 plates produced had a specific number already printed on the plate, therefore specialized characters are not available. The plate features an American flag and fireworks in a dark sky, above green mountains with the New River Gorge Bridge, a part of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The design celebrates America, in a uniquely West Virginia way.
