Everything is on your phone. Now Your ID is too. WV MID: Carry your ID in an app on your phone.

What is Mobile ID (MiD)? Is it a valid form of identification?

Mobile ID is a new form of digital identity that allows users to create a contactless, highly secure, state-approved personal credential that resides on their smartphone and can be used as a valid form of ID both in-person and online. The authenticity of a Mobile ID is ensured through verification with a state’s system of record (SOR), such as the DMV website.

Why Mobile ID?

  • Convenience- Carry your ID in an app on your phone. Prove your identity and pay for your purchase from the same device at participating locations. ID check with barcode scanning is quick and easy - and contactless for your safety.
  • Security- Protect your personal data. Safer than carrying your ID in your wallet, the Mobile ID app is secured using FaceID or TouchID. Fingerprint or face unlocking means only you can access the app and your data if your phone is lost or stolen.
  • Privacy- Control what you share. Mobile ID puts you in control by letting you decide what information you share with unique privacy laws. Verify your age without exposing sensitive data like birth date, height, weight, or address.
